Here in Victoria, BC, Canada we have some excellent wood suppliers and have access to just about any domestic or exotic hardwood you can think of. I am sure we can find a species of wood that jumps out at you. No need to pick just one, your handle can have a variety of wood types to get the look you’re going for.
Some popular woods I stock: Maple, Walnut, Padauk, Zebrawood, Rosewood and Ebony.
All of my custom handles are finished with pure Tung Oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood and to add a measure of protection to your investment. I also provide you with a tin of my custom plant-based oil and wax polish to maintain and further protect your handle.
Saya is the Japanese term for a scabbard, sheath or cover, specifically for a sword or knife. Saya – Knife Covers protect your blade and keep the cutting edge from getting dulled when not in use. They also help avoid accidental injury. A must have for any chef that transports their knives.
My go to wood species for sayas is Poplar, this type of wood is great because it is soft enough that it won’t scratch or mar your blade and hard enough that it provides excellent protection.
Poplar wood sayas come in 2 finish options:
- Natural with Wax
- Black finish with Tung Oil (additional $10)
